Fri, 01 Jul 2011 21:00:38 -0700 And Life Goes On! http://www.reedbooks.org/and-life-goes-on http://www.reedbooks.org/and-life-goes-on I have had a busy and interesting several months.

1. I have decided to put a moratorium on regular TV watching.  The main reason is that frankly there is nothing worth watching, and I watched quite a bit the beginning of the year and am tired of it.  So I hope to do other things instead.  I will however continue to watch movies with Netflix, (with Google TV), and Glee (with Hulu.com)

2.  I had a total knee replacement in April which has been a wonderful success.  Before the surgery, it hurt to go to the grocery store, shopping or anything like that.  I have had a pretty quick recovery, although I had to have a second surgery to remove an infected stitch.  I went to physical therapy for several weeks, but now I can do so much more than I could before.  I have very little pain in the new knee.  I am happy.  And I have my other knee scheduled to be replaced in October.

2.  I decided I was going to read 100 books this year.  I am at 50 books so far, so I think I will make it.  I will put up a list later.

3.  I am starting to travel again.  I am going to Detroit next week for the National Exchange Club Convention.  In September, my husband, niece and nephew and myself are going to Chicago to see Harper and Hiromi.  And in October, I am going to Houston for Sweet Adelines International Convention.  I am excited.

4.  I get to see my son, Dylan (and his wife, Sarah) pretty often.  He is working for a digital comic book company in Boulder, and continues to do some freelance stuff.  Sarah teaches photography at a small high school close by.

5.  My son, Harper is the CTO for Obama's reelection campaign.  His wife, Hiromi, works  for KPMG, an accounting firm.  They are in Chicago.

Wed, 03 Mar 2010 12:59:06 -0800 Reading http://www.reedbooks.org/reading-2188 http://www.reedbooks.org/reading-2188 I came across this Reader's Rights the other day and thought I would share them.  So here goes:

Reader's Rights
1.  You have the right never to apologize for your reading tastes.
2.  You have the right to read anything you want.
3.  You have the right to read anywhere you want..in the bathtub, in the car, in the grocery store, under the porch, or while walking the dog.
4.  You have the right to read in bed.  Under the covers.  With a flashlight.
5.  You have the right to carry your books in your baggage at all times.
6.  You have the right to read in exotic settings.
7.  You have the right to move your lips when you read.
8.  You have the the right to read the good parts out loud to your nearest and dearest.
9.  You have the right to read and eat at the same time.  (This right, however, does not include the right to use food as a bookmark when you are reading library books.  Even if it's the very best potato salad.
10.  You have the right to read and make love at the same time.  Probably not in the library.
11.  You the the right to read as many books as you want at the same time.
12. You have the right to throw any book on the floor and jump up and down on it (provided that you have paid for it first).
14.  You have the right to ignore the critics at the New York Review of Books.
14.  More importantly, you have the right to ignore the critics in your immediate family.
15.  You have the right to stop reading a book whenever you decide it's not worth the effort, or that you simply don't like.
16.  You the the right to refuse any book anyone else picks out for you.  Even if it's a birthday present.  (This is associated with your right to refuse to wear any necktie or perfume you receive as a gift).
17.  You have the right to skip all the boring parts.
18.  You the the right to read the last chapter first.
19.  You have the right to read the last chapter and then put the book back on the shelf.
20.  You have the right to refuse to read any book where you don't like the picture of the author.

I am and my family members are avid readers.  I am one to read the last chapter of a book shortly after beginning the book.  My sons and husband have always given me a hard time about that.  Well, this solves that problem!  Also, I often use a Amazon Kindle, and it is really hard to skip ahead when reading from that.

Knitting

January 17, 2010

I have been busy, busy, busy.  This is a photo of some of the knitted face cloths I have been making. I got hooked on this at Christmas, thanks Sarah and Dylan, and have been knitting like crazy ever since.  The yarn is so so very soft and you can get so many colors.  It is 2 strands of yarn, one a chenille and one a soft bamboo or cotton.  It is crazy!  It is an easy pattern so it goes fast!

Wed, 06 Jan 2010 11:06:22 -0800 Fish Tank http://www.reedbooks.org/fish-tank-7 http://www.reedbooks.org/fish-tank-7 It is very blustery cold today.  It reminds me of the blustery days Winnie the Pooh talked about.  It was a busy morning with Dylan coming early to change the water and clean the fish tank.  I have a 36 gallon Red Sea Max salt water tank.  It has 2 Nemos (clown fish) and one striped pajama fish, and lots of corals.  Somehow the corals go crazy in this tank. It looks like they may over take it.  But I guess that is a sign that it is healthy.  I can't seem to keep any more fish as the Nemos are very territorial, and don't like outsiders. I will try to post a picture.

Thu, 31 Dec 2009 10:03:56 -0800 Christmas 2009 recap http://www.reedbooks.org/christmas-2009-recap http://www.reedbooks.org/christmas-2009-recap This Christmas was amazing.  Harper and Hiromi stayed for a week, and Sarah and Dylan spent lots of time here too.  Our niece and nephew, Kory and Kile came on the 27th for a few days.  It was so much fun.  We cooked lots of good food - we had a delicious fondue Christmas Eve dinner AND knitted - Sarah taught Hiromi to knit, I taught my niece, Kory, to knit AND we played online computer games together - we had 7 lap tops in our kitchen at one time AND Dylan, Sarah and Hiromi went to lots of yoga classes AND we shared memories, ideas, love and lots of laughter.  Wow!  It was truly a Christmas to cherish.

We spent today with our friend Amy and her sons, Landon, Cuben and Caden.  They are 7,  5 and 2 respectively.  Years ago, Amy babysat for us when Harper and Dylan were in early elementary school.  She would come early, get them ready for school, take them there, pick them up, etc.  She did this for several years.   It was fun to hear Harper and Dylan and Amy reminisce about their time together.

Sat, 26 Dec 2009 10:36:34 -0800 After Christmas http://www.reedbooks.org/after-christmas-10 http://www.reedbooks.org/after-christmas-10 We had a wonderful Christmas and are still relaxing.  So nice...........
We spent Christmas day with our son, Harper and his wife, Hiromi.  We had a great vegan meal that Hiromi cooked - tuna, sushi, rice and vegies.  We did have a few Christmas cookies, well probably more than a few, thanks to our neighbors.  And some other pretzel goodness that Dylan and Sarah made.

Today we were going to drive to the airport vicinity and pick up our neice and nephew so they could stay with us the next week.  But I-70 from Burlington (where they live) is closed so they can't get to the airport.  My other nephew, their brother,  is suppose to fly to Des Moines today but will hopefully fly out tomorrow and we will pick up the kids tomorrow.  Everyone at their house if bummed for sure! As are we. So we will have to relax again today.  Oh No!

Fri, 25 Dec 2009 11:38:00 -0800 My first blog entry. http://www.reedbooks.org/my-first-blog-entry-22 http://www.reedbooks.org/my-first-blog-entry-22

Today is Christmas Day 2009.  I am setting up a blog with the help of my son, Harper.  I had a wonderful Christmas with my sons, their wives and my husband, Steve. Many thoughtful, funny and perfect gifts were exchanged.  We had a fondue dinner before the opening of gifts that was awesome.  Harper wants me to hurry and finish writing so I can see how this will look, so good bye.
